‘A Rich and Satisfying Life’

Standard

Why do many people hesitate to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior? For some, it’s uncertainty about the unknown, while others may be influenced by past negative experiences. But for many, the fear of a dull and boring life as a Christian holds them back. How different this fear is from the vibrant life the Bible promises to those who become followers of Christ. Consider these truths from scripture:

“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)

“I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

“May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. “ (Ephesians 3:19-20 NLT)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

Rivers of living water, a rich and satisfying life, complete with all the fullness of life and power, love, joy, and peace — do any of these things sound boring? Not in the least! Why then does the world look upon Christianity as something boring? Maybe it’s because many of us Christians are boring!

Recently I read that one Christian author compared the average Christian life to a bowl of plastic fruit. In the bowl are apples, oranges, and even bananas, yet no one ever tries to eat them. Why not? It’s because they know they aren’t real. People want fruit that is real, luscious, and dripping with life and vitality.

The one word that should never describe the believer is the word ‘boring.’ Instead, it should be the word ‘vitality.’ After all, we have within us the fullness of life and power that comes from God!

Heavenly Father, help us learn how to live the kind of lives You have called us to live. Help our lives to be filled with the richness of Your glory and the power of Your presence. May those who see us be drawn to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God bless you, brethren.
