Devotional: ‘For Such a Time As This’

Standard

Over the last couple of nights I have read the story of Esther. If you are not familiar with its content you should make it a goal to read it. It’s one of the most fascinating stories in all the Bible. As I was reading through the chapters I once again came across the challenge of Mordecai –

Esther 4:13 Mordecai told [the messenger] to reply to Esther, “Don’t think that you will escape the fate of all the Jews because you are in the king’s palace. 14 If you keep silent at this time, liberation and deliverance will come to the Jewish people from another place, but you and your father’s house will be destroyed. Who knows, perhaps you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this.”  CSB

Sunday Sermon: ‘Part 1 God’s Amazing Grace and Our Salvation’

Standard

1 Peter 5:10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

Peter was writing to Christians who were suffering. Their faith was being tested like gold in the fire and many were wondering if it was worth it. Peter wanted to assure them that indeed it was worth it and that God was with them, helping them in all their trials.

Devotional: ‘Pride, Humility, and God’s Grace’

2 Corinthians 12:9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong. NKJV

Grace is God’s unmerited favor which we have neither earned nor deserve. It is the power of Christ living in us which gives us the strength to do all things. There is nothing in all this world that we need more than God’s grace. It is by His grace we are saved. (Eph 2:8-9) It is by His grace that we are sustained. (2 Cor 12:9-10) It is by His grace that we serve. (1 Pet 4:10)

Devotional: ‘Grace That Will Make Us Excel’

Standard

The Bible teaches us that our salvation is the product of God’s grace. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God…” (Eph 2:8) It is by God’s unmerited favor that He made a way for our salvation. It is by God’s unmerited favor that He calls us to our salvation. And it is by God’s unmerited favor that He keeps us in our salvation.

Romans 5:2 Also through Him, we have obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. CSB

Devotional: ‘According to the Riches of His Grace’

Standard

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Whenever we hear the word ‘grace’, many of our thoughts go to salvation. As we have just read – ‘For by grace you are saved…’ It was God’s favor (which we neither earned nor deserved) that caused Him to provide a way for us to be forgiven. In His justice God had every right to reject us and to condemn us to hell. Yet because He is a gracious God, He desired for us to be with Him in heaven and therefore He made a way for our forgiveness.
