‘Confessions of a Changeaholic’

Standard

If you have viewed my blog over the past few days, you’ve noticed that I’ve been messing around with its format and appearance. Perhaps when you first pulled it up you thought you had maybe made a mistake.  Don’t worry – you’re OK. It’s still Pastor Terry’s “Seeds of Faith.” Why then all the changes? Interesting question.

Thanking God

Standard

Recently Tammy and I made a trip where we had to travel for several hours. As we were driving down the road I thought about how crazy it is for automobiles to be traveling at such high rates of speed and only a few feet apart. One little mishap on someone’s part and there would be a terrible crash and maybe even death. As we neared our destination safely I did what I so often do; I breathed – “Thank you Lord” and I heard Tammy do the same.

Devotional: ‘God Is Giving Me Strength ’

Philippians 1:12 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;

This week we have studying about how the gospel was furthered through Paul’s imprisonment. If you were a part of last Sunday’s service, you know that my sermon revolved around three primary points:

1. God  Was Opening Doors That Otherwise Would Be Closed
2. God Was Using People That Otherwise Would Be Silent
3. God Was Giving Strength To Some Who Otherwise Would Be Weak

Devotional: ‘In Nothing I Shall Be Ashamed’

Standard

Philippians 1:20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

Persecution was a real problem during the days of Paul. To be persecuted means to be attacked and even killed for your faith. More and more both the Jews and the Romans were beginning to attack and persecuted  the Christians. It was for this reason that Paul often referred to the issue of being ashamed of Christ and His gospel. Consider these passages:

Devotional: ‘We All Are His Witnesses’

Standard

Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

A witness is someone who gives testimony to what they believe to be the truth. According to Christ, each of us is to be a witness of His saving power.

Devotional: ‘Open Doors’

Philippians 1:12 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;

I’m sure that Paul appreciated what Joseph said about his time in prison – “What some meant for evil, God used for good.” Like Joseph, Paul was unjustly put into prison. And like Joseph, God used his adversity to his advantage. What some meant for evil, God used for good.

Devotional: ‘What Do We Do Now?’

Standard

This week our country experienced yet another tragedy. Someone planted bombs at the Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring a number of others. One of the victims was an eight year old boy. The day after the bombing incident I read this in USA TODAY

“We knew this day was coming. It was always just a matter of when, and where, and by whom. This is a day in Boston that celebrates the remarkable endurance of the human body and will. It is a day when runners savor a moment they will cherish all their lives, often with their families standing by to watch and share. Someone wanted to see the finish line strewn with dead bodies. Often, there is no bottom to depravity. So here is the question that goes with living in the 21st century, for we have had to ask ourselves this before, and will again… What do we do now?”

What do we do now?” That’s a question we sometimes find ourselves asking. What do we do whenever we find ourselves in a terrible situation?

Devotional: ‘Praying for Fruitfulness’

Standard

Philippians 1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ; 11 Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

The Apostle Paul was a man of prayer. He often prayed for the churches and especially for the church at Philippi. How did Paul pray for his fellow believers?
