Devotional: ‘A Brawling Disposition’

Standard

Are you a fighter?  That may sound like a silly question, but according to God’s Word, it’s not.  Many of us have a brawling disposition and perhaps do not know it.

Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, to speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.  (Titus 3:1-2)

Devotional: ‘Godly Older Men’

Standard

Much of what we know in life we learn from watching others. We observe their actions and if they make a favorable impression upon us, we see to mimic them. Paul told Titus that older, more mature Christians can have a very positive impact upon those who are younger.

Titus 2:2 Older men are to be self-controlled, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance. 3 In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. [They are] to teach what is good, 4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be sensible, pure, good homemakers, and submissive to their husbands, so that God’s message will not be slandered. Devotional: ‘Who Are the Older Members of the Church?’

Standard

Titus 2:1 But you must speak what is consistent with sound teaching. 2 Older men are to be self-controlled, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance. Paul told Titus that the older Christians needed to help disciple the younger. Their task was not so much to teach them doctrine, but to set before them a living example. As DL Moody used to say – “Every Bible should be bound in shoe leather!” It was the duty of the older believers to help the younger make the connection between what was written on the pages of scripture and what was lived out in life.

Devotional: ‘Harmony Between the Young and the Old’

Standard

There are many things that can help us grow and mature as believers. Obviously included in this list are the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. But there is something else that God desires to use to help us develop. It is the power of godly examples.

6 Likewise, encourage the young men to be sensible 7 about everything. Set an example of good works yourself, with integrity and dignity in your teaching. CSB

God’s Amazing Grace – Able to Sanctify Us

Standard

audio

1 John 3:1 Behold , what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be : but we know that, when he shall appear , we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
