Devotional: ‘A New Song’

Standard

One of the best ways to describe the Christian life is by the ‘new song’ we sing

“And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.” (Psalms 40:3)

What is the new song of the believer?

It’s a Song of Rejoicing

“And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God…” (Psalms 40:3) Whenever David spoke of this new song, he often referred to the accompaniment of instruments and celebration. With great joy we sing our new song of rejoicing!

It’s a Song of Redemption

“I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD. Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust,…” (Psalms 40:1-4)

It’s a Song of Reunion

“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; and hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.  And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.  And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.”  (Revelation 5:9-13)

One day in heaven there will be a reunion of all of God’s saints and there we will sing our new song of rejoicing for our redemption. What a day, glorious day that will be.
