Devotional: ‘The Secret Place’

Standard

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”  (Psalm 91:1-2)

Where is the secret place of the Most High? Is it a building or a country or even heaven? No, my friend. It is the heart of God. He who dwells near the heart of God shall find shelter and rest. He will find also a love that can’t be explained.

Consider some of these aspects concerning our secret place:

It is a Supreme Place

No place on earth can be its equal. It is where God Himself dwells.

It is a Secure Place

David tells us that those who dwell in this secret place will find protection during the storm. Not even the forces of hell can barge in and disrupt us in this private place. This place has been set aside for us to be alone with God.

It is a Secret Place

In God’s secret place things can be shared that only we and our heavenly Father will ever know. In this secret place every burden can be expressed, every sin exposed, every sorrow shared, and every desire made known. Here in this secret place you can dance when it is time to dance, and mourn when it is time to mourn. In God’s secret place we can be who God made us to be.

It is a Sympathetic Place

In this secret place, we can express everything that is in our heart. No concern will be overlooked. No request will become routine. God is infinitely interested in every detail of our lives.

It is a Safe Place

The psalmist said that in this secret place, there is shelter and rest. God’s secret place is our refuge and fortress.

It is a Satisfying Place

It is in this secret place that we can find the inner satisfaction and peace we all desperately need and long for. As the gospel song says – “And He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own. And the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.” (C. Austin Miles, 1912)
