Devotional: ‘A Marriage Made in Heaven’

Standard

For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.  Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.  (Revelation 19:7-8)

Over the years I have performed a number of weddings. One thing I have noticed is that although there are many things about these weddings that are sometimes different, there are other things that are always the same. One thing that stands out to me about every wedding is that the bride always desires to be beautiful in the eyes of her groom.

Scripture teaches us that one day there will be a wedding in heaven, unlike any here on earth. It will be the wedding of Jesus Christ to His church. The guests will include all of the Old Testament Saints along with those who will be saved during the Tribulation Period. Scripture also teaches us that the reception for this wedding will last for 1,000 years!

Notice what the Bible tells us about the bride at this special wedding – “. . .  and his bride has made herself ready.  Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.”

Apparently a part of the beauty of the bride will be the righteous things we do while still on earth.  Like rhinestones sown to a wedding gown, the service we give today will one day glisten like diamonds before our Savior. Some diamonds may include the times we shared the gospel or comforted the weary. Songs of praise and prayers of intercession will also be a part of our heavenly adornment. Though they are called the “righteous acts of the saints”, we all know that they are demonstrations of Christ’s power living in us.

Revelation 4:10 … They lay their crowns before the throne and say: 11 “You are worthy, our Lord and God,to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

Every bride I have ever known spends weeks, months, and even years planning for their wedding.  How much more should you and I prepare ourselves for the day when we see our Savior.

For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready.  Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.  (Revelation 19:7-8)
