Devotional: ‘If God Be For Us, Who Can Be Against Us?’ pt 1

Standard

“What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” (Romans 8:31-32 NLT)

Many of us are worriers. We worry about our health, our wealth and what the future holds. Yet the Bible constantly encourages us not to worry. Today we read one of its great promises – “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?”

The question before us is – “How is God for us?” Over the next few days we will examine three different ways God is for us. I pray that these studies will be a blessing and encouragement to you.

1. God the Father is For Us In That He Has Always Loved Us

The Bible teaches us that even before God created the world, He knew that He would need to send His Son to die for our sins. Paul writes – “Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” (Eph 1:4-5 NLT)

Peter also declares – “For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And the ransom he paid was not mere gold or silver. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but he has now revealed him to you in these last days.” (1 Peter 1:18-20 NLT)

Paul asks us, “Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?” In other words, if God was willing to give you the very best when you were the very worst, won’t He now give you the very least since you mean to Him the very most?
