Devotional: ‘And They Sang a New Song’

Standard

‘And They Sang a New Song’Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song with these words: “You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For You were slaughtered, and Your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 And You have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth.” 11 Then I looked again, and I heard the voices of thousands and millions of angels around the throne and of the living beings and the elders. 12 And they sang in a mighty chorus: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slaughtered—to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.” 13 And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang: “Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the One sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever.” 14 And the four living beings said, “Amen!” And the twenty-four elders fell down and worshiped the Lamb. Worship in heaven will be beyond anything we have ever experienced here on earth. In heaven we will be able to look upon the face of our Savior and see His unmatched glory combined with His pure love. In heaven, we will be free of the sinfulness of our flesh that so often distracts us and holds us back. In heaven, we will be surrounded by countless numbers of fellow believers and angels who will join us in our praise of God. ‘What a day, glorious day that will be.’

I have read that in the book of Revelation alone, there are 14 songs of worship. Many of these songs focus upon three primary truths:

Who God Is

Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Scripture says – “In the beginning God…” Though many in the world today try to deny God’s existence, in heaven there will be no question as to who He is or what He is like. Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that He is Lord.

What Christ Has Done

Revelation 5:9 … You were slaughtered, and Your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.

Even a million, billion years from now, we will be giving praise to Christ for dying for our sins. Christ carried His scars to heaven and forever they will be reminders of His great sacrifice and love.

How We Will Spend Eternity

Revelation 5:10 You have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth.”

Many have questioned how we will spend eternity. What will we do forever and ever? Scripture teaches us that we will serve God as a Kingdom of priests. Unlike the priests of the Old Testament who offered up physical sacrifices for sin, we will offer spiritual sacrifices of praise. Our songs, our lives, our desires and focus will be totally upon God and His Christ and forever we will give Him the glory that He is due.
