‘Children of the Light’

Standard

Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the LORD. Live as children of light.

The difference between Christians and non-Christians is like night and day. Scripture teaches us that Christians are children of the light and non-Christians are children of the darkness.

Notice that Paul did not say that we were once “in” darkness; instead he said that we once “were” darkness. Before coming to Christ, we were blind to spiritual truth and darkness was a part of our nature.

“But now you are light in the Lord” Paul tells us. Once we come to Christ and receive Him as our Savior, His light comes to dispel the darkness that was within us and to make us a part of His kingdom of light.

During His Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said –

Mt 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

As I said at the beginning of this lesson  – the difference between Christians and non-Christians is like night and day. Christians are no longer children of the darkness, but instead we are children of the light! So let your light shine before others that they may see God in you and glorify His name.
