Devotional: ‘Strength to Get Going on a Monday’

For most folks, Monday is a difficult day to get up and get going. I have had some jobs in life where it was hard for me to go to sleep on Sunday night because I dreaded getting up on Monday morning. If that’s you, you have my sympathy. But let me also give you a word of encouragement –

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Php 4:19 NKJV)

God is always mindful of every need of His children. Jesus said- “If God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won’t he more surely care for you? He will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.” (Mt 6:30, 33 NLT)

Paul tells us that our God will supply everything we need. ‘Everything’ includes not only the things we need that are spiritual, but also the things we need that are practical. God will see to it that we have sufficient clothing, shelter and food. In addition, God will also make sure that we have sufficient strength to meet the everyday challenges of life. During a difficult time in his life, the Apostle Paul asked the Lord to change his circumstances. In response our Lord said – “My grace is sufficient for you…” (2 Cor 12:9 CSB) Jesus did not lighten Paul’s load. Instead He gave him the strength he needed to stay strong.

Hudson Taylor, who was a missionary to China during the 1800’s, often said,

“When God’s work is done in God’s way for God’s glory,
It will not lack for God’s supply.”

God is just as much concerned with what we need on a Monday morning as He is on a Sunday morning. Therefore, rather than trying to just make it through another Monday, let me encourage you to approach it with the mindset and anticipation that God has some special for you today. Perhaps you will have the opportunity today to say or do something that might greatly help and encourage another person. Perhaps you will have the opportunity to share the gospel. Perhaps God will use you on this Monday to help turn someone’s life around.
