Devotional: ‘Spiritual Confidence’

God wants our Christian lives to be filled with confidence, for He knows it is only the confident Christian that will be able to serve Him the way they should. In what ways should we be confident in our relationship with God?

We Should Be Confident That We Have Eternal Life

1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

Salvation is not “I hope so” or “I wish.” Salvation is – “I know!”

We Should Be Confident That We Our Lives are Pleasing to Him

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

To walk in the light means to live according to the principles of God’s Word. John tells us that it is only when we are living in the light of His Word that we can have true confidence that we are really in fellowship with Him.

We Should Be Confident That We Can Talk Openly and Honestly With Him in Prayer

1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

God wants us to know with certainty that we are saved and that we are living in accordance to His will. The reason He wants us to have this certainty is so that we can have a powerful prayer-life.

The person who is always doubting their salvation will not feel worthy to talk to God; nor will the person who knows that they are living in sin. Only the child of God, who is walking in true fellowship with their Savior, will have the confidence they need to pray the way they should.

Are you confident in your relationship with God? Are you confident of your salvation? Are you confident in the way you are living? Are you confident to pray to God and to share every part of your life with Him? God wants you to have such confidence.
