Devotional: ‘In Deep Water’

When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. (Is 43:2-3 NLT)

Notice that God does not say, “if you go”, but “when you go.” We will go through difficult times. We will grieve over the loss of loved-ones. We will suffer the disease and decay of these mortal bodies. We will be unjustly attacked and misunderstood. Yes dear friend, it’s not ‘if‘, but ‘when.’

That is why these verses of scripture are so precious. They have been written to bring us comfort and to assure us that when we go through such moments, we will not go through them alone. Our God, the Holy One of Israel, our Savior, neither sleeps nor slumbers. He is constantly watching over His chosen ones and He will never leave them nor forsake them. The eternal God is our refuge and underneath are His everlasting arms.

I wished that I could tell you the secret of escaping trouble; but I can’t. He that is born of woman is of few days and full of trouble. Yet our God shall supply all of our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. I pray that knowing that God is with you will encourage you. After all, if God be for us, who can be against us?
